Logline: A cautious American in Seoul rediscovers her self-worth while covertly boosting her disorganized Korean roommate’s career, but their unfolding romantic and professional partnership defies cultural norms and risks the visitor’s deportation.
Summary: Seeking purpose, Kathleen leaves unfulfilling American job prospects to interview with a Korean company. She lodges with cluttered web developer Eunhee, who despite success still battles sexism. Though only offered an English teaching role, Kathleen stays to rebuild her worth. Meanwhile, Eunhee tackles a career-defining project alone after her coworker quits.
Their personalities clash, but the two women bond deeply when methodical Kathleen begins subtly optimizing Eunhee’s pivotal presentation, finding fulfillment in boosting Eunhee’s success behind-the-scenes. Romantic entanglement arises after a coincidental date between Kathleen and Eunhee’s ex-husband, pushing Eunhee to weigh her affection for Kathleen. A surprise kiss confirms Eunhee’s feelings but leaves Kathleen wary of rigid social judgments.
Eunhee’s project is deemed a major success, so she’s given a new task: lead the project presentation to visiting American investors — in English. Kathleen’s background makes her uniquely qualified to prepare Eunhee but, precarious romance aside, doing too much to assist Eunhee could violate Kathleen’s visa, risking deportation back to uncertainty and more failure. Nearing Eunhee’s major project deadline, the duo must find a way to keep both of their careers safe or risk abandoning achievements and parting ways.
